In accordance with preliminary experiences, the Snowbirds accident at Fort St John on 2 August precipitated an engine failure on account of an improperly assembled oil filter.
A preliminary “from investigator” report from the Directorate of Flight Security said that the plane was certainly one of 9 CT-114 Tutor jets at Fort St. John Airport in assist of the Fort St. John Worldwide Air Present on 30 and 31 July. The aircraft was flying again from Fort St. John to Moose Jaw when the accident occurred.
In accordance with the report, shortly after takeoff, the pilot heard a loud noise and the engine failed when the touchdown gear was engaged.
The pilot put the touchdown gear again down and selected to land the aircraft straight forward. The report mentioned that the jet touched down with about 500 toes of runway. The unlocked touchdown gear collapsed underneath the burden of the plane and it traveled about 1,000 toes earlier than hitting a fringe fence and stalling.
The plane was critically broken however the pilot escaped with none accidents.
The report mentioned the investigation is now trying into human elements that will have contributed to the accident.
